The Legend of the Gods, the main show performed at Huaxia City, is the embodiment of the cultural soul of Weihai Huaxia City. It is also the first world-class performance staged in what was an abandoned stone quarry. The theater of the The Legend of the Gods is built in a quarry measuring 210 meters in length and 171 meters in width. Taking advantage of the quarry’s topographic features, the Huaxia Cultural Tourism Group team of artists and technicians designed and built an open-air Chinese opera house featuring a series of integrated sets and stages custom-built to blend into the natural features of the quarry such as the lake, brooks and mountains. The seven scenes are laid out in a circle within the quarry anchored by a lake in the middle.

The seven scenes are laid out in a circle within the quarry anchored by a lake in the middle.

The team engineered and constructed a custom rotating and mobile audience platform 48 meters long and 28 meters wide designed to resemble an ancient Chinese ship to transport the audience of 2,100 people around the lake and position them in front of each elaborate scene.  The audience is always at the center of the show—on land, on the water and in the air.

Through a variety of artistic forms, the performance presents the history of the development of human civilization in China spanning five thousand years.  The whole drama is divided into seven chapters. These include: Blessings for Huaxia, Ancestral Tribes, Phoenix Nirvana, Congratulations of Eight Immortals, East Tour for Immoral Cultivation, Dragon Flying and Bless Huaxia.

In one scene, a 5,000-ton wall of water is released to spectacular effect over a natural quarry wall feature.  There are five 15-meter drums suspended over the rushing waters with a solo drummer perched precariously in front of each one hammering out an ancient rhythm over the chaos of water below. It appears that the audience will be swept away until the angry waters are diverted at the last possible moment.  This is just one of many memorable scenes in the elaborate production.

Mr.Xia Chunting, Huaxia Cultural Tourism Group chairman,  is very creative and assumed the roles of senior director, planner, and editor-in-chief for this show.  He breaks the performance model of a single stage and transports the audience from scene to scene for an unprecedented audio-visual experience.  Mr.Xia Chunting gives the audience an authentic setting for each scene performaned in a setting combing a stunning natural landscape and historical Chinese cultural elements.  He is the first one to accomplish this.  The Legend of Gods, seen as a brilliant pearl of the Weihai tourism industry, begins the fantastic journey of cultural tourism in the Jiaodong Peninsula.
