Lake with flowers and trees

The Eco-Transformation

Under the leadership of Xia Chunting, the Huaxia Cultural Tourism Group has transformed a former industrial site full of mines and quarries, abandoned equipment, waste gravel and mining dust that was a hazard to health, safety and the environment, into a thriving, successful and scenic ecosystem.

In the 18 years since the project was first conceived by Huaxia Cultural Tourism Group’s chairman, and a total investment of ¥5.16B RMB ($728.46M USD) put into the project, we have successfully established a national 5A level tourist attraction—Weihai Huaxia City—by creating lush mountains and clear waters in the area that was once home to a desolate topography of abandoned mines and quarries with no living thing in sight.

Flora

Tree species include cedar, black pine, Chinese arborvitae, locust, alder, weeping willow, Hawthorne cedar, acacia, oak, elm, pagoda, white mulberry, linden, ash, maple, chestnut, silk trees, Persian walnut, apple, pear, cherry, apricot, fig, peach and pomegranate just to name a few.  There are more than 200 species in all!

Flowers are plentiful throughout the site with dahlias, pink sorrel, rhododendrons, American pokeweed, wisteria, trumpet creepers, Chinese roses, hydrangeas, lotus, among some of the many different types of flowers that can be seen at different times of the year.

Fauna

Many animals have been introduced to this natural habitat including wild hares, goats, donkeys, roe deer, wild boar, badgers, foxes, civet cats, sheep, tortoises, field and harvest mice, snakes and squirrels among others.

Various species of freshwater fish live in the various streams, ponds and lakes throughout the project including grass carp, salmon, black carp, crucian carp, and koi fish among others as well as freshwater turtles.

A variety of birds have made the local environment home including various species of ducks, swans, storks, egrets, dollar birds, oriental magpies, pheasants, swallows, large owls, wild chickens and many kinds of migratory birds.
